More about our Proximity Switches
Proximity switches are non-contact position sensing devices that detect the presence or absence of metallic objects without physical contact, providing reliable position feedback for automated systems, safety interlocks, and process control applications in mining and industrial equipment. Unlike mechanical limit switches, proximity switches have no moving parts to wear out, making them exceptionally reliable in the high-vibration, contaminated environments typical of mining plant and heavy equipment. Inductive proximity switches generate an electromagnetic field and detect changes in that field caused by metal objects entering the sensing zone.
Proximity switches are used throughout mining and industrial equipment for applications including cylinder position sensing, conveyor belt alignment detection, bin level sensing, door and gate interlock systems, and equipment position monitoring. They are available in cylindrical threaded bodies (M8, M12, M18, M30 are common sizes), rectangular flat-face bodies for flush mounting, and specialised configurations for specific installation requirements. Sensing range, output type (NPN or PNP, normally open or normally closed), supply voltage, and IP protection rating are key parameters for selecting the correct proximity switch for a given application.
Minespec NSW stocks proximity switches for mining, industrial, and heavy equipment applications. Our range is selected for the reliability and durability standards required in Australian mining operations, and our team can assist with application-specific switch selection to ensure you get the correct sensing range, output configuration, and environmental rating for your installation.
