More about our Heat Shrink and Boots
Heat shrink tubing and boots are essential cable management and protection products used throughout vehicle harness construction and electrical installation. Heat shrink is a thermoplastic tubing that shrinks radially when heated, creating a tight, insulating sleeve over cable joins, terminal ends, wire bundles, and connector entries. Standard polyolefin heat shrink provides electrical insulation and abrasion resistance, while adhesive-lined (dual-wall) heat shrink contains a hot-melt adhesive inner lining that flows when heated to create a waterproof seal — critical for harness repair and connector entries in moisture-exposed locations on mining vehicles and equipment.
Heat shrink boots are pre-formed heat shrink components moulded in standard shapes (straight, 45°, 90°, and Y/T branch configurations) for covering connector rears and cable exits. The pre-formed geometry ensures a neat, professional appearance at connector entries while providing the same environmental sealing benefits as standard heat shrink tubing. Correct heat shrink selection requires matching the unshrunk diameter to the cable or connector being covered while ensuring the shrunk diameter provides adequate grip — heat shrink is available in 2:1, 3:1, and 4:1 shrink ratios to suit different application geometries.
Minespec NSW stocks heat shrink tubing and boots in a range of sizes, ratios, and types for automotive harness repair, connector protection, and general cable management applications. Adhesive-lined heat shrink is particularly recommended for any harness repair or connection in a location exposed to moisture, providing a sealed result that standard non-adhesive heat shrink cannot achieve.
