More about our Blanking Plugs
Blanking plugs seal unused connector cavities, conduit ends, and panel apertures in electrical systems, preventing moisture, dust, and contamination from entering through these potential ingress points. In sealed connector systems like Deutsch, Superseal, and Ampseal, every unused cavity in a partially-populated connector housing must be sealed with the correct blanking plug to maintain the environmental sealing of the connector — leaving cavities open defeats the purpose of using a sealed connector system and allows direct moisture access to the contact faces of the populated cavities.
Blanking plugs are typically made from rubber or silicone in the same material and dimensional specification as the contacts they replace, ensuring a consistent cavity seal that matches the connector's designed sealing performance. Conduit end caps and panel blanking plugs perform the same function at the system level — preventing contamination ingress at unused conduit ends and panel cutouts throughout the vehicle's electrical installation. In mining vehicles that may be built with provisions for future accessories, blanking plugs at pre-wired but currently unused circuits maintain system integrity until those circuits are activated.
Minespec NSW stocks blanking plugs for the major connector families in our range, including Deutsch DT, DTM, DTP, and DTHD series, along with general-purpose conduit end caps and panel blanks. Our team can help identify the correct blanking plug specification for your connector series and cavity size.
