More about our Grommets
Grommets are rubber or plastic inserts fitted in panel apertures through which cables or conduits pass, protecting the cable insulation from the sharp edges of metal panels that would otherwise cut through the insulation and cause a fault. In vehicle electrical systems and industrial equipment, grommets are used wherever cables pass through bulkheads, firewalls, floor panels, cab walls, and equipment housings — and are a fundamental component in preventing cable damage and maintaining the integrity of fire barriers between vehicle compartments.
Automotive and industrial grommets are available in a wide range of hole sizes and cable passage diameters to suit different panel thicknesses and cable bundle sizes. Closed grommets with a slit design are used where cables are added post-manufacture, allowing the grommet to be fitted around existing cables without disconnecting them. Firewall grommets provide both cable protection and a degree of fire and smoke compartmentalisation between engine and cab areas. Quality grommets are moulded from EPDM or silicone rubber that resists heat, oil, and chemical exposure over the life of the installation.
Minespec NSW stocks a range of grommets in common automotive and industrial sizes for vehicle harness installation and panel wiring applications. Proper grommet use is a basic requirement of professional vehicle electrical work — our team can assist in identifying the correct grommet size for your specific panel thickness and cable bundle diameter.
