More about our Heatshrink
Heat shrink tubing is a fundamental consumable in automotive electrical work and harness construction, used to insulate and protect wire joins, terminal connections, and cable ends throughout vehicle wiring systems. When heat is applied using a heat gun, the polyolefin tubing shrinks radially to conform tightly to the cable or component it covers, creating a durable insulating sleeve that resists abrasion, moisture, chemicals, and UV degradation. Standard heat shrink is available in 2:1 shrink ratio for most applications, with 3:1 and 4:1 ratios available for covering irregular shapes or components with a large diameter variation.
Adhesive-lined heat shrink (dual-wall) is the recommended choice for any application requiring waterproof sealing in addition to insulation — the hot-melt adhesive inner layer flows when heated, sealing around cables and providing a moisture-resistant barrier at connector entries, wire join points, and cable ends. Standard heat shrink without adhesive lining provides insulation and abrasion protection but will not prevent moisture ingress along the cable beneath the sleeve, making it unsuitable for outdoor or moisture-exposed locations without additional sealing measures.
Minespec NSW stocks heat shrink tubing in a range of sizes and types for automotive, mining vehicle, and industrial electrical applications. Our range includes standard polyolefin, adhesive-lined, and specialised heat shrink grades, available in cut lengths and spooled rolls for workshop use. Wholesale pricing is available for workshop and fleet maintenance operations that consume significant heat shrink volumes in ongoing harness repair and vehicle fitout work.
