More about our Circuit Breaker
Automotive and industrial circuit breakers are resettable overcurrent protection devices that trip and interrupt the circuit when current exceeds the rated threshold, then can be reset manually (or automatically in self-resetting types) after the fault is cleared — unlike fuses, which must be replaced after operating. Circuit breakers are preferred over fuses in applications where resettable protection is operationally important, including main distribution points, high-value or critical circuits, and accessibility-challenged installation locations where fuse replacement would be impractical in the field.
In mine-spec vehicle builds, circuit breakers are commonly used for main battery protection, winch circuit protection, and distribution panel main circuit protection where the ability to reset from a convenient location is operationally important. Type 1 (manual reset), Type 2 (automatic reset), and Type 3 (modified reset) circuit breakers provide different response behaviours for different application requirements — automatic reset types are not suitable for safety-critical circuits where a permanent disconnect is required after a fault, while manual reset types require deliberate operator action before the circuit is re-energised.
Minespec NSW stocks automotive and light industrial circuit breakers across a range of ratings and mounting configurations for mine-spec vehicle and equipment electrical installation. Our team can assist with circuit breaker selection and application for vehicle electrical systems, including guidance on selecting between fuse and circuit breaker protection for specific circuit requirements.
