More about our Cable Lug
Cable lugs are heavy-duty crimped terminals used to connect large-gauge cables to battery terminals, bus bars, starter motors, alternators, and other high-current connection points in vehicle and equipment electrical systems. In mining vehicles and heavy equipment, the quality and correct sizing of cable lugs on battery, starter, and alternator connections is critical — undersized or poor-quality lugs create resistance and heat at the connection point, leading to starting problems, charging system faults, and fire risk in the most severe cases.
Cable lugs are specified by conductor cross-section (mm²), stud hole diameter, and terminal material. Copper cable lugs — either tinned or bare — provide the highest conductivity and are used for the majority of vehicle power circuit connections. The crimping process must be performed with appropriate tooling to achieve a gas-tight crimp that maintains low contact resistance throughout the service life of the connection — hand tools designed for the specific lug series and conductor size are essential for reliable results.
Minespec NSW stocks cable lugs across a range of conductor sizes and stud hole diameters for mining vehicle and heavy equipment electrical applications. Our range is complemented by the cable sizes, crimping tools, and heat shrink tubing needed for complete, professional cable lug installation. Wholesale pricing is available for fleet fitout and mine site maintenance programs that require large quantities of cable lugs.
